NEW RELEASES

Marcia Ball

Peace, Love, and BBQ

Peace ,Love , and BBQ is perhaps the most multi-faceted and deepest album of Marcia's career. From the pure New Orleans fun of "Party Town", "Watermelon Times", and "Right Back In It", to more serious commentary on Katrina and it's aftermath with the probing "Where Do You Go" and the inspirational "Ride It Out", two of her more arresting compositions(the former co-written by Tracy Nelson, who also appears on it). Contributions by Dr. John, Terrance Simien, and Wayne Toups add to the Gulf Coast ambiebce. Plus, Steven Bruton's production is terrific, especially in the way that he frames Marcia's performances of "Miricle In Knoxville" and "Down In The Neighborhood" with a fascinating soundscape. Marcia has described Peace, Love, and BBQ as the album she's proudest of in her long career, and its easy to hear why.

"Mississippi Sea" marks a bit of a departure from Buddy's "sound" with the Bluebirds. Acoustic blues, nine songs written or co-written by Buddy. A deep, laid back artistic statement by a passionate Observer of the South. The imagery on these original tunes is deeper than the Mississippi Sea. A wider point of reference than the Mississippi Delta, with the Deep South mystique of the Ark-La-Miss and the hard-edged feel pioneered by Texans like Lightnin' Hopkins.
"Flett's six-string work sounds like the missing Louisiana link to Elmore James and Muddy Waters"

Blues for Peace

Blues for Peace was set up in Israel to honor the roots of blues music and promote peace and the understanding that ALL peoples have had their share of the blues.

Blues for Peace is dedicated to the unsung heroes, local blues musicians that love the blues and pass it on to the next generation.

As you browse this site ask yourself, "Isn't it time people stopped fighting and learned to play 12 bar blues shuffles instead?"

Shalom,
Johnny Mayer and Eli Marcus

This was the first year Baton Rouge Blues Society participated in this fundraiser.  Tickets were sold at Phil Brady's and other clubs in Baton Rouge. How lucky we are to have the winner for 2007.  It goes to show, you can win. I  - Pam Linton

Is It The Blues?
Listen and Vote

Is it the Blues?

Well it depends on your definition of Blues music. Some fans take the academic approach, some the emotional. To some, it's the groove that matters, to others, it's a matter of race. Are the Blues an historical artifact, or are they still alive?

"Is it the Blues" is a chance to calibrate your Blues radar. Listen to the following clips from recent releases and rate their Blues worthiness in this Blues music challenge. Just listen and vote. This will require RealPlayer to listen to the clips.

If you can't tell Blues music from Rock and Roll, here's how.
